PC DOSThe screen saver starts together with Windows. A key or a mouse move ends it and leaves the Program Manager minimized to an icon at the bottom left. A double click on it opens the Johnny Castaway group, and a double click on its icon starts the screen saver again. Johnny Castaway
Online version of Johnny Castaway for PC DOS. Johnny Castaway is a Windows 3.1 screen saver, released by Sierra On-Line in 1992 as the first title of its Screen Antics label. It was made at Dynamix, in Jeff Tunnell Productions. Instead of random patterns it tells the cartoon story of Johnny, stranded on an island with a single palm tree: he fishes, builds sand castles and a raft, and gets visits from a mermaid, a shark and Lilliputian pirates. The story moves on with the PC's calendar, and at Christmas, Halloween or New Year Johnny decorates the island.

IBM PC with MS-DOS
Online emulated version of Johnny Castaway was originally developed for the IBM PC and compatible computers,
with MS DOS - Microsoft Disk Operating System. It is an OS for x86-based personal computers mostly developed by Microsoft and released in 1981 as PC DOS 1.0.
MS-DOS was targeted at Intel 8086 processors running on computer hardware using floppy disks to store and access not only the operating system, but application software and user data as well.
Progressive version releases delivered support for other mass storage media in ever greater sizes and formats, along with added feature support for newer processors
and rapidly evolving computer architectures. Ultimately, it was the key product in Microsoft's development from a programming language company to a diverse software
development firm, providing the company with essential revenue and marketing resources. It was also the underlying basic operating system on which early versions of Windows ran as a GUI.
